Homemade Fruit & Veggie Blend Gummies Recipe

Have you ever tried making homemade gummies? They're a lot easier than you might think! We asked Ashley Walterhouse (Fit Mitten Kitchen) to develop this easy-peasy recipe, using our Fruit & Veggie Blends. Try making these with your kids—they'll love helping fill the molds and pop the gummies out. There are two versions below: one made with agar agar (vegan/vegetarian) and one made with gelatin.

Note: This recipe is recommended for ages 4 and up. Only feed your child when they are seated and supervised. More info on choking hazards here.

Homemade Gummies (Agar Agar Version)

These 3-ingredient gummies are made with agar agar powder (a vegan/vegetarian alternative to gelatin).

  • Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 1 full tray of gummies

Ingredients

Strawberry Gummies:

  • ¼ cup Once Upon a Farm Strawberry Patch pouch
  • 1/2 cup organic fruit punch 100% juice
  • 1 teaspoon agar agar powder

Blueberry Gummies:

  • ¼ cup Once Upon a Farm Mama Blueberry pouch
  • 1/2 cup organic concord grape 100% juice
  • 1 teaspoon agar agar powder

Directions

  1. In a small non-stick saucepan over medium heat, whisk together ¼ cup of the pouch with juice. Add in agar agar powder and whisk until powder dissolves. Allow mixture to come to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. Allow mixture to cool in pan for 2 minutes before transferring to a glass measuring cup with spout (heat-proof).
  3. Place silicone gummy mold on a rimmed baking sheet.
  4. Pour mixture onto mold and use scraper or flat spatula to evenly distribute liquid into each cavity (as best as you can)
  5. Transfer sheet to fridge and chill for 20–30 minutes, until gummies set.
  6. Gently pop out of mold and enjoy!

Homemade Gummies (Gelatin Version)

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup Once Upon a Farm Fruit & Veggie pouch
  • ½ cup organic 100% juice (flavor to compliment pouch)
  • 1.5 tablespoons unflavored gelatin

Directions

  1. In a small non-stick saucepan over low-medium heat, combine ¼ cup pouch with juice. Add in gelatin and whisk immediately, until completely dissolved. Allow mixture to heat up for 2–3 minutes (until almost simmering) then turn off range and remove pan from heat.
  2. Allow mixture to cool in pan for 2 minutes before transferring to a glass measuring cup with spout (heat-proof).
  3. Place silicone gummy mold on a rimmed baking sheet.
  4. Pour mixture onto mold and use scraper or flat spatula to evenly distribute liquid into each cavity (as best as you can). Alternatively you could use a dropper.
  5. Transfer sheet to fridge and chill for 45 minutes (or place in freezer for 10–15 minutes) or until gummies set and easily pop out of molds.
  6. Push in the center of the mold to pop out gummies. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Refrigerate any leftovers (though we doubt there will be any! 😉)
  • The vegan gummy mixture will set rather quickly as it cools, so it is recommended to pour the mixture into the molds (instead of using a dropper tool).
  • The vegan gummy mixture will take about 5 minutes to bring to a boil. Allow the mixture to come to a boil first, before reducing to a simmer for another 5 minutes. The agar agar needs simmer time to thicken and set properly.
  • Each batch will make over 100 small gummy hearts. We used this mold, but this mold can be used for slightly deeper hearts.
  • The texture of vegan gummies are not like store-bought fruit snacks. They do not have a traditional “gummy” texture.
  • If using gelatin, the texture will be similar to a Jell-O consistency.
