Once Upon a Farm Co-Founders: Ari Raz, Cassandra Curtis, John Foraker & Jennifer Garner (pictured above)
Once upon a time in a land far far away… there were four little fairies who lived in the woods and wrote children’s books for children of all ages! Well, actually they were in Berkeley, California and technically they were the four Co-Founders of a baby food company wanting to share their favorite children’s books with you, but let’s not stifle that imagination!
Reading to your kiddos (and fur babies too… #bookswithbirdie) early and often has proven benefits, including strengthening children’s social, emotional, and character development and decreased levels of aggression, hyperactivity, and attention difficulties (1). In fact, a child’s brain is already 80% formed by age three and 90% by age five (2) which is incredible and yet another reason to start reading to our kids early on.
Even though that bed time routine can be a struggle some days, incorporating time for reading just a few days a week can make a significant impact. If you’re not sure where to begin or need some guidance, this PBS article has helpful information including everything from picture books that encourage kindness to books to excite your child’s mathematical imagination to books to get the whole family giggling.
We’ve also rounded up our favorite childhood books, including our Co-Founder, Jennifer Garner’s, top six picks your little one will love.
If you’re finding your kiddos aren’t engaging in story time, here are a few activities to get them excited!
Happy reading from our family to yours!
